GTA 6 Delay History: Every Date Change Explained

Two delays, three different dates, one that finally stuck. Here's exactly what happened and when.

Last updated

GTA 6 has been delayed twice. The original Fall 2025 window slipped to May 26, 2026 in early May 2025, then that date slipped again to the current November 19, 2026 in November 2025. Both times, Rockstar cited the need for more development time.

The First Delay

In early May 2025, Rockstar pushed GTA 6 from its original Fall 2025 window to May 26, 2026, citing the need for more time to meet its quality bar. Four days later, with zero warning, Trailer 2 dropped and hit 475 million views in 24 hours — effectively Rockstar's way of apologizing with fireworks. Full trailer detail on the Trailer 2 guide.

The Second Delay

In November 2025, Rockstar delayed the game again, moving May 26, 2026 to the current November 19, 2026 — the same stated reason as before. This is the source of a lot of the confusion still floating around search results: screenshots and old articles referencing "May 2026" are outdated, not wrong at the time they were written.

Will It Happen Again?

No official sign of it. Rockstar's last two mainline releases, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, both got delayed before launch too, and both still shipped on their final announced date once pre-orders and a full gameplay reveal were out in the world. GTA 6 hit both of those markers in June and August 2026 — historically the point where Rockstar's dates stop moving. A senior Rockstar North figure has also gone on record reassuring fans directly.
