The short answer

GTA 6 is not coming to Nintendo Switch 2 at launch. Rockstar has announced it for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, releasing November 19, 2026. Rockstar and Nintendo haven't announced a Switch 2 version, and no Switch 2 listing exists.

"GTA 6 Switch 2" box art and trailers do circulate online. They're fan-made. One viral "leak" turned out to be satire.

Why GTA 6 isn't on Switch 2

GTA 6 is built for current-generation PlayStation and Xbox hardware, and Rockstar has kept it off older consoles entirely, including PS4 and Xbox One. The Switch 2 is a portable hybrid with a much smaller power and storage budget than a PS5. A huge, dense open world like Leonida would need serious cutbacks to run on it.

Rockstar also has a mixed history on Nintendo hardware. GTA 5 never came to the original Switch. Red Dead Redemption did get a Switch port in 2023, but that was 13 years after the original release.

Could GTA 6 come to Switch 2 later?

It's possible but unannounced. Rockstar usually brings big games to new platforms years after launch: GTA 5 came out in 2013 and reached PC in 2015. Rockstar hasn't even given the PC version of GTA 6 a date yet, so a Switch 2 version, if it ever happens, is likely a long way off. See our GTA 6 PC release date guide.

What Switch 2 owners can do

  • Play on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Xbox Series S is the cheapest console that runs GTA 6. See GTA 6 on Xbox and GTA 6 on PS5.
  • Watch the official gameplay in the 26-minute Extended Look.
  • Keep an eye on official channels. A Switch 2 version would be announced by Rockstar or in a Nintendo Direct.
