Can You Play GTA 6 on PS4?

No. GTA 6 is the first mainline GTA that skips the previous console generation entirely. Here's what that means for you.

The short answer

No, GTA 6 is not coming to PS4. Rockstar has announced it only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, releasing November 19, 2026. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version, and none has been announced.

A PS5 disc or download won't run on a PS4, and nobody has announced a way to stream GTA 6 to a PS4.

Why there's no PS4 version

GTA 5 launched on PS3 and Xbox 360, then got remastered for PS4 and later PS5. GTA 6 breaks that pattern and targets current-gen hardware only. Its dense world, crowds and lighting depend on the PS5's faster SSD and processor, which the PS4 can't match.

By November 2026 the PS5 will be six years old, and most big releases have already dropped PS4 support. For the full platform list, see GTA 6 platforms.

The cheapest way to play GTA 6 if you're on PS4

  • Xbox Series S is the lowest-cost console that runs GTA 6. Its 512 GB drive is tight though, so check our download size guide.
  • PS5 Digital Edition keeps you on PlayStation, so you keep your PSN account, friends and trophies.
  • A used or refurbished PS5 is often the cheapest PlayStation option.

Then pre-order digitally so you can pre-load from November 12. The game costs $79.99 for Standard or $99.99 for Ultimate (prices by country are in the price guide).

What about GTA 5 and GTA Online on PS4?

GTA 6 is a separate game, so your GTA 5 or GTA Online progress on PS4 doesn't carry over. Rockstar hasn't announced any link between GTA Online and GTA 6's online mode. See the GTA 6 Online guide for what's known.
